FAQS

1. WHAT IS Low-Intensity shockwave therapy?

Low-intensity shockwave therapy is a proven protocol for men that improves sexual performance and the health of the blood vessels in the penis. Read more on our About Shockwave Therapy page.

2. HOW DOES IT WORK?

Low-intensity shockwave therapy works by using high-frequency acoustic waves to improve the health and number of blood vessels in the penis. Micro-injury from the shockwave device increases blood vessel dilating chemicals such as nitrous oxide and recruits growth factors and stem cells that stimulate the growth of new blood vessels, i.e., neovascularization. It also has the potential to remove microplaques in vessel walls. The result is enhanced profusion to the penis leading to stronger, harder, and more sustainable erections.

3. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

  • Enhances Firmness of Erections

  • Enhances Size/Fullness of Erections

  • Improves Sexual Performance

  • Possibility of Reducing or Eliminating Medications

4. HOW LONG DO THE EFFECTS LAST?

Doppler ultrasound studies revealed that twelve months after completion of treatments, patients continued to have improved hemodynamics (profusion or blood flow to the penis). Patients frequently notice more lasting benefits depending on their health and lifestyle.

Depending on patient goals and budget, patients may complete 6 – 24 treatments. We also have preventative maintenance and performance programs to maintain results and optimize performance.

10. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN Low-intensity shockwave therapy AND VIAGRA, CIALIS, OR OTHER ED MEDICATIONS?

Shockwave therapy addresses some of the underlying pathophysiology of erectile dysfunction. It is most effective for patients experiencing vasculogenic ED (the most common type of erectile dysfunction associated with aging). Viagra and Cialis can improve erections after taking a pill but do not address the underlying cause of ED. Frequently, men have irritating side effects from medications such as headaches, flushing, and backaches. Shockwave therapy has no side effects and can be used in many cases by men who have contraindications for oral medications.  Shockwave may also have some application for Peyronie’s Disease, which Viagra and other oral ED drugs do not. Additionally, many men may still choose to take Viagra or Cialis after shockwave therapy but often notice better responsiveness to these medications or the ability to take a lower dose.

11. WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF low-intensity shockwave therapy OVER OTHER “MALE ENHANCEMENT” PROCEDURES?

Surgical procedures such as penile implants or prostheses can be great tools for patients who have failed other treatments. There are downsides to these surgical male enhancements, and men may want to avail themselves of less invasive options before choosing surgery. The benefits of shockwave therapy include:

  • Is drug and surgery-free.

  • Is non-invasive and has little or no known side effects.

  • Is a simple in-office procedure, with each treatment taking only 30-40 minutes.

  • Can provide long-lasting results.

  • No downtime with shockwave therapy. Being sexually active is encouraged after treatment.

  • The shockwave protocol addresses the poor blood vessel health in the penis - the root cause of ED.

12. WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM low-intensity shockwave therapy?

MEN WITH ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION

Shockwave therapy has proven to be a safe and effective alternative treatment to Viagra and other oral ED medications. In fact, shockwave therapy has been proven to enhance sexual performance without harmful side effects.

MEN WITH PEYRONIE’S DISEASE

Shockwave therapy has some promising studies suggesting it may help break down scar tissue and may reduce the curvature of the penis typical of Peyronie’s Disease.

MEN SEEKING MALE ENHANCEMENT

You do not have to be suffering from ED, or any other medical condition to benefit from shockwave therapy. Shockwave is used for men wanting to improve performance and quality of erections.
