Erectile Dysfunction: The Power of The P Shot

Because so many men are concerned about their sexual health, we have written extensively about sexual dysfunction.  As outlined in our main post on the subject, there are several challenges men face when it comes to sexual health - with approximately 52% of men reporting some level of erectile dysfunction (ED).  Thankfully, there are a number of safe and effective treatment options that optimize erectile function.

One solution that patients find particularly attractive is the Priapus Shot, or P-Shot. This falls into the category of regenerative treatments aimed at improving the health of blood vessels in the penis. Clinically proven and non-surgical, the P-Shot has been used for over a decade. There are two categories of patients who can benefit from PRP treatment or the P-shot: patients who are experiencing erectile dysfunction and those who might not experience dysfunction but who may want to optimize the quality or size of their erections.

The P-Shot - What it Does

As men age, the majority struggle with a decrease in sensation and quality of erections, less frequent morning or spontaneous erections, and a decline in stamina. Harnessing the power of platelet-rich plasma (PRP), the P-shot can bring about the following benefits:

  • Increased sensation and pleasure

  • Enhanced ability to maintain erections or stamina

  • Increased quality, size, and fullness of erections

  • Improved strength and intensity of orgasms

  • Can potentially enhance the efficacy of other therapies like Viagra or Cialis

  • Can help mitigate Peyronie’s Disease plaques (curved penis)

The P-Shot - How It Works

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy was originally a regenerative treatment popular for treating athletes with sports injuries - addressing ligamentous injuries, tendonitis, and degenerative joint issues. Taking into consideration its regenerative capabilities, PRP was then explored as a potential tool to help men’s and women’s various sexual function challenges.

PRP treatment for erectile dysfunction - or the P-Shot - involves first a blood draw from your arm and then blood is placed in a specialized centrifuge where a sticky layer of platelets, growth factors, and plasma is concentrated and separated from the rest of your blood elements.   This sticky layer, called a buffy coat, is then reinjected into the target area, in this case the corpus cavernosum of the penis.  PRP assists in mobilizing an immune response of local stem cells and growth factors, which accelerates the repair of the lining of blood vessels and formation of vascular networks. This results in increased blood flow and trapping of blood in the penis, leading to stronger, more reliable, and more frequent erections.

What To Expect

The P-Shot is a simple, in-office procedure that takes approximately 30-45 minutes. A numbing cream is applied to the treatment area and a local anesthetic is also provided for ultimate comfort. While the area is numbing, a simple blood draw from your arm is completed. After the PRP is prepared and you are adequately numbed, PRP is injected with a small needle to the target area.  There is no lasting pain or discomfort following the procedure.

There is no real downtime - sexual activity can be resumed on the same day. In fact, anything that brings more blood flow to the area is encouraged. You will be instructed on a specific post-care protocol involving a vacuum device and daily low dose of Viagra or Cialis.

While some men experience results immediately, most patients will see results within a few weeks, with maximum benefits appreciated after three full months. Most men report measurable benefits after treatment. KPM is a certified P-Shot ™  provider.
